  • What are the huts in Hive Villages, Distant Hive Villages, and Southern Hive Villages made of? Southern Hive Villages seem to be a slightly different color too.

Here's the only lore regarding this:

guy:So I was trading in the hives the other week...

guy:An' I noticed... that brown stuff them lot build huts out of...

guy:It ain't stone and it ain't wood neither...

Human:Nah, I guess it ain't... Never really thought about it before...

guy:I mean, why don't we have buildings made of that stuff outside of the hives, eh?

Human:Could be the red sand. Maybe if you dig deep enough around Vain...

guy:I dunno. It don't look like it came outta the ground to me...

    Human:... What are you saying?

guy:Twomoon drank too much rum last week, threw his guts up all over the bar...

    guy:What I'm sayin' is...

guy:That stuff inside Twomoon, it looked real similar...

    • Given this bit of dialogue and the Lo-Fi Games website's page on hivers,(here) I think what it's actually saying is that hivers consume a mixture of cacti, hemp and their own manure, then upchuck the mixture to make the buiding materials for their huts. Or maybe they consume the surrounding dirt and use that.

Wither way, I'm sure the process involves vomiting up something. There's prescedent for this with ants and termites, although I can't remember if the substance uses their stomach acid or some other corrosive fluid. It's why termite mounds and anthills are made from not-quite-dirt, if you've noticed.
