Unskinned Katana.
Katanas are a class of weapons that specialize in cutting damage. They are a very commonly found weapon type, and their low weight makes them easy for beginners to use.
Katanas are offensive weapons, featuring attack bonuses and defense penalties, as well as a high blood loss multiplier. A major characteristic of Katanas are big penalties for armour penetration and robot damage, making them a poor choice for the latter stages of the game. However, they are quite useful against early-game enemies, who are predominantly humans in little to no armor.
They feature a two-hit combo attack (called Downward Combo) that makes them particularly useful when fighting animals or singular weak opponents but leaves their wielder vulnerable to getting hit in battles with multiple foes. The combo attack is the only weapon animation[1] which has less than 100 power (100% of the weapon's damage). It makes up for this by attacking twice: the power of the first strike is 80 and the second one is 60. Unfortunately, though, Downward Combo is usually too slow[clarify] to land the second hit on an opponent if they were staggered by another attack. This leads to overall less damage over time when compared to weapon types like Sabres or Polearms[2].
Weapon Skill - Katana[]
| “ | Affects damage. Katanas are a common weapon, and their quality varies greatly. Most are scavenged goods with a history of owners and barely good for scrap. Masterworks are around however, and their speed and cutting power is un-rivalled by any other blade. | ” |

Meitou quality weapon locations[]
- Main article: Meitou
Each Katana type has a Meitou quality version. The Wakizashi is one of the few weapon types in the game which have multiple (3, in this case) units with Meitou quality. Dimak's Ninja Blade is one of the most easily acquirable Meitou weapons but deals less damage than most Edgewalker Katanas.
