Environment refers to the different soil types in Kenshi. Data about a location's environment can be found by Prospecting the area. Players should learn what environment they are in before Farming.

Types of Soil[]

Arid[]

Arid land is desert-like or sandy. It is prone to sand storms. The crop yield of Cactus Farms and to a lesser extent, Wheat Farms and Hemp Farms, are based on arid fertility.

Green[]

Green land has grass and more trees than other environments. The crop yield of Cotton Farms, Hemp Farms, Vegetable Farms, and Wheat Farms are based on green fertility.

Swamp[]

Swamp lands are regions with copious amounts of water on the ground. The crop yield of Hemp Farms and Riceweed Farms are based on swamp fertility.

Zone Statistics[]

These are statistics which are uniform throughout each zone. Weather effects such as wind, rain, or duststorms are generated randomly, so average values are provided. Groundwater and Fertility are dependent on elevation, with each zone having additional modifiers that affect the elevation ranges, minimums, or multiply these values. In general, lower elevations will have higher fertility and groundwater levels. An example would be Okran's Valley, which has potentially 75% fertility; however, almost the entire zone is 0% fertility, because it is well above the zone's maximum elevation for fertility; only a small portion of the northeast corner is low enough to be fertile.
